Installation
- Hardwired ceiling installation — a licensed electrician is recommended.
- All mounting hardware and a 39.4″ / 100 cm hanging chain are included. Chain length is adjustable on-site.
- For best visual effect with the clear glass and visible bulb, hang at eye-level offset: 75–90 cm (30–36″) above kitchen islands or breakfast bars; 75–85 cm above dining tables.
- Handle the glass cylinder carefully during installation — clear glass can show fingerprints; a soft cloth wipe after install brings back its clarity.
FAQ
Are the dark patches on the metal a defect or oxidation? +
They are intentional surface oxidation from the manufacturing process — the iron is not coated to a uniform smooth finish, allowing natural oxidation to settle into the surface. This creates the darker, mottled appearance that defines the Abeleisa's industrial character. It is not rust progression and will not continue to develop under normal indoor use; the surface is stable.
Why are the welding seams left visible? +
It's a deliberate design choice. Most modern lighting hides welds with grinding, sanding, and powder coating until the metalwork looks anonymous. The Abeleisa preserves the welds — copper-coloured at the joints — to honour how real industrial fixtures were built before mass production smoothed everything over. If you appreciate the honesty of visible construction, this is a feature; if you want hidden joints, this is the wrong product.
Will my piece look exactly like the photos? +
The shape, dimensions, and overall aesthetic will match. But the exact pattern of welding marks, oxidation distribution, and tonal nuance is unique to each piece. This is intentional. If you order multiple Abeleisa pendants for a row, the slight variation is what makes them feel like a "found" set rather than a manufactured set.
Is the glass clear or frosted? +
The glass is fully clear and transparent — the bulb is completely visible through it. Because of this, your bulb choice has a major visual effect on the overall look.
Which bulb do you recommend? +
A warm white (2700K) Edison-style filament LED bulb in E26 or E27 base, at 4–6W. The visible filament inside the clear glass is the heart of this product's vintage industrial look. Avoid frosted bulbs (they fight the clear-glass design) and avoid cool-white or daylight bulbs (they clash with the warm aged-metal tone).
Is it dimmable? +
Yes — paired with a dimmable Edison-filament LED bulb and a TRIAC-compatible wall dimmer (e.g. Lutron Skylark, Leviton Decora), the Abeleisa dims smoothly. Dimmed warm filament light through clear glass is particularly atmospheric — many owners install on a dimmer specifically for this effect.
How do I clean the glass and metal? +
Switch off the wall power and let the bulb cool. Wipe the clear glass with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner for the clearest finish. For the metal frame: use only a soft dry cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners, polish, or wet wiping, which can disturb the intentional oxidation and brushwork.
Will the oxidation get worse over time? +
No. The surface is stable under normal indoor conditions — the existing oxidation pattern is sealed in place during manufacturing. It will not progress or "rust through". Avoid exposing the fixture to humidity (e.g. bathrooms, outdoor exposure) or direct moisture, which could affect long-term stability.
