Natural Travertine · Frosted Glass Globes · Asymmetrical Sconce

A wall sconce in the language of 1970s Italian post-modern lighting — a tall vertical travertine slab with two frosted glass globes mounted asymmetrically on its face, one above the other on opposite sides of the stone. The composition is sculptural rather than symmetric: a single slim block of porous natural stone, two soft milky orbs of light.

Each travertine slab is hand-cut from natural stone, with the characteristic open pores, banded layering, and subtle cream-and-beige veining unique to travertine. Three colorways — classic Beige (warm Tivoli tone), bold Black (rich Iranian-style travertine), or quiet White (Roman-style travertine) — let the piece anchor either modern, gallery-style, or warm contemporary interiors. Suited to bedside walls, hallways, primary bedrooms, dressing rooms, and gallery walls.

Natural Travertine Slab

Hand-cut from natural travertine — visible pores, banded layering, and unique color tone in every piece.

Twin Frosted Globes

Two soft milky glass globes mounted asymmetrically — diffused warm light without glare.

Three Stone Colors

Classic Beige, bold Black, or quiet White travertine — natural stone in three distinct registers.

Classic Beige

Warm honey-cream travertine with visible banding — the classic Tivoli tone, as pictured. Suits warm contemporary and Mediterranean interiors.

Bold Black

Rich black travertine with subtle gray veining and pore texture — anchors modern, gallery, and high-contrast schemes.

Quiet White

Pale silver-white travertine with cream undertones — fresh in coastal, Scandinavian, and pale-walled interiors.

Hand-cut natural travertine. Each slab is cut from a fresh block of natural stone — pore texture, banding patterns, color saturation, and surface character vary piece to piece. The piece you receive will not look identical to the photographs. The visible pores and color shifts are natural properties of the stone, not flaws — they are the reason travertine has been valued for architecture and lighting since Roman times.

Installation note — ultra-slim profile. The travertine slab is only W 7 cm (2.8″) wide, which is narrower than a standard US/EU single-gang junction box. The default installation routes wiring directly through the wall (no junction box needed). If your wall already has a junction box installed, please contact us before ordering — we'll include a compatible mounting adapter that lets the sconce mount over a standard J-box.

  • Hardwires direct to wall — professional installation recommended.
  • Default install: no junction box. The slim profile (W 6 cm / 2.4″) routes wiring directly through the wall behind the stone. Best for new construction and walls being opened up.
  • Retrofit over existing J-box: contact us before ordering and we'll include a mounting adapter that lets the sconce sit over a standard single-gang junction box. No extra charge.
  • Heavy stone fixture: the travertine slab adds weight beyond a standard sconce. Use heavy-duty wall anchors rated for at least 5 kg, especially on drywall.
  • Install at 60–66″ above finished floor for hallway and bedside use; for gallery wall use, position to align with the artwork rather than at standard sconce height.
  • Fits two G9 socket bulbs — supply your own warm-white G9 LEDs.
  • Indoor only · clean travertine with a soft dry cloth; avoid acidic cleaners which etch porous natural stone. Glass globes can be wiped with a damp cloth.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo? +

No. Travertine is a natural stone with naturally varying pore patterns, banding, and color saturation — every slab is different, and the stone you receive will not match the photographs exactly. The visible pores and color shifts are properties of the material, not flaws. Our note on the product page is explicit about this: photographed stone and shipped stone will differ.

What is travertine and why does it have holes? +

Travertine is a form of natural limestone formed by mineral springs over thousands of years. The characteristic pores (vacuoles) are formed when gases bubble through the stone as it sets — they're authentic to the material and one of its visual signatures. Premium travertine is unfilled (pores left visible) for a textural natural look. The Romans used it for the Colosseum.

What's the difference between the three colors? +

Classic Beige is the warm honey-cream tone most associated with Tivoli travertine — Italian Mediterranean character. Bold Black is rich black travertine with subtle gray veining for graphic, modern, gallery-style spaces. Quiet White is pale silver-white with cream undertones, fresh in coastal and Scandinavian schemes. All three are real natural stone, not painted.

Is the sconce dimmable? +

Yes, with the right bulbs. Each globe takes a G9 socket bulb. Install dimmable G9 LED bulbs on a TRIAC wall dimmer and the sconce dims smoothly. Warm white 2700K–3000K is recommended to flatter both the travertine tone and the frosted-glass diffusion.

Will it fit over my existing junction box? +

Not by default. The travertine slab is W 6 cm (2.4″) wide — narrower than a standard single-gang J-box (about W 5.7 cm / 2.25″ but with surrounding hardware). The default installation is direct-to-wall, no J-box, so the wiring routes through a small hole behind the stone. If your wall already has a J-box installed, tell us at order and we'll include a free mounting adapter that lets the sconce mount cleanly over a standard single-gang box. Mention this when you order so we ship the right hardware.

Is travertine durable as a wall sconce? +

Yes — travertine is a structural building stone, far harder than alabaster and not prone to cracking under normal indoor use. The main care consideration is avoiding acidic cleaners (lemon, vinegar, citrus-based bath cleaners) which can etch the surface. A soft dry cloth is all that's needed for routine cleaning.

Can I install it in a bathroom? +

Travertine is suitable for general bathroom installations away from direct shower spray and high-humidity zones. Avoid placing it directly above a shower or tub — porous natural stone can absorb moisture and acidic shower-product residue over time. For powder rooms and primary-bath vanities, it works fine.
